The East Otway Landcare group was formed when members
of the local community wanted to be involved in "on-ground"
works. They were concerned about environmental issues that they
could see in the Deans Marsh, Pennyroyal and Bambra areas.
Environmental concerns were gully erosion, tunnel
erosion, stream erosion, salinity, landslips, wetland protection,
weed & vermin control, water quality and preservation of remnant
bushland along the four main creeks i.e. the Deans Marsh creek,
the Pennyroyal creek, Retreat creek and the Yan Yan Gurt creek.
Providing a wildlife corridor from the Otways to the Barwon river
to help the tree decline was another aim.
- Bambra Wetlands - a community project revegetating
a crownland area on the Retreat creek;
- Yan Yan Gurt creek - a catchment approach to reduce
erosion and create a wildlife corridor from the bush to the Barwon
river;
- Connection, preservation and enrichment of remnant
bush at Bambra; and
- Deans Marsh creek - stabilising the stream bank
and providing a wildlife corridor.
